Beth Loved Children, Play, and Having Fun!
After Beth passed, we began an Annual Girls-Only Kickball Game in her honor. All of her friends came together, and the proceeds were donated to Hospice children’s bereavement programs.
Years later, more projects were inspired by Beth’s joyful spirit. One special effort was the creation of “Gratitude is the Attitude” bumper stickers — with 100% of the proceeds donated to various charities.
Beth’s legacy continues to live on through play, kindness, and giving back.
Beth's Legacy is Carried on in the Hearts of Children at Mission Be
After Beth died, our family tried to return to “normal” life, but nothing was the same. Her absence left a deep ache, but also a longing to find meaning and healing. Out of that longing, new seeds of hope were planted.
In 2004, opportunity opened for a social work position at Islip High and Middle School, where two of Beth’s younger brothers were entering 9th and 7th grade and Carin was hired. Being together each day at school became a source of comfort for our family. Out of those school years came shared moments — from homecoming floats to special projects — that helped us heal together.
During that time, a simple after-school mindfulness club grew far beyond expectations. More than half the student body signed up, and soon Fox 5 News came to share the story nationally. What began as a small spark of healing grew into something much larger than we ever imagined.
That spark became Mission Be, a nonprofit dedicated to bringing mindfulness and social-emotional learning to schools, grounded in non-controversial moral principals of compassion, love and authentic care for children.
Today, Mission Be has reached more than 330,000 students and educators across 28 states and 11 countries, carrying forward Beth’s legacy of kindness, compassion, and joy to children all over the world.
